This collection documents
Ray Fenwick's career via a fascinating selection of music - and some new
to CD rarities.
There is the previously unissued ska of Ray's first professional band Rupert & The Red Devils and the rare Freakbeat classic "Crawdaddy Simone" by The Syndicats. Ray's Dutch experience is reflected in tracks by The Tee Set and After Tea. In 1968 Ray joined the Spencer Davis Group and this CD features his first recorded work with the band and two later singles. Also featured is Spencer Davis offshoot, The Murgatroyd Band, and the theme to the cult childrens TV series "Magpie". Ray's work with the Ian Gillan includes his contribution to the Deep Purple singer's solo project in 1974 and the Ian Gillan band in 1976.
The album is complimented
by extensive sleeve notes.

The brainchild of Ray
and Hans Vermeulen, this project is almost a "who's
who" of Dutch rock, including members of Golden Earring, The Tee
Set, After Tea, Shocking Blue and Earth &
Fire.
Nigel Olsson and Dee Murray, who were to form Elton John's classic rhythm section, also contribute. The music is a mixture of blues, funk, rock and country with a touch of gospel.

This album is somewhat
ahead of its time. Originally recorded in 1971 it lay on the shelf due to
copyright problems with the Elgar piece. Almost forgotten,
the album was resurrected after the necessary clearance had been
obtained.
Ray teams up with Mick Grabham, the guitarist with Cochise and Procul Harum, aided by Dee Murray and Tony Newman. There are guest appearances by Nigel Olsson and Tim Renwick.

This is the Ian Gillan
Band's second album, released in 1977, but in a radically different form.
This CD contains the original "Rockfield" mixes before
Ian Gillan remixed them for the first issue(on Island)and the second issue(on
Virgin).
The album, "Clear Air Turbulence", stands up remarkably well with age being a hybrid synthesis of jazz rock and funk, quite different from Gillan's rock histrionics in Deep Purple. In this version of Gillan's Band, Ray is accompanied by John Gustafson(ex-Big Three), Mark Nauseef and Colin Towns(now a highly successful TV and film score composer).

Ray's first
solo album from 1971 featuring musician friends
B.J.Cole, Mick Grabham, Eddie Hardin, Robert
Eduard, Dee Murray, Roger Pope, Peter York, Hans
Vermuelen, Caleb Quayle and Nigel Olsson.
The title and theme of the album was inspired by Ray's experiences in the States, in particular attempts by the government to encourage the male population to keep their hair short. It was thought that this would instil a sense of order and respectability coming as it would in the wake of flower power and sixties liberalism.

The Wind In The Willows
project started as far back as 1976, although production did not get underway
until the early 80s. Eddie Hardin, who replaced Stevie Winwood
in Spencer Davis Group, had always wanted to create a musical adaptation
of Kenneth Grahame's classic novel.
In creating this work, Eddie assembled a veritable rock/pop "Who's Who and the original album was first released in 1985. Several years later, in 1991, the production was filmed for German Television and it is this performance that is featured on this first-time-to-CD release.

In 1969 the Spencer
Davis Group went into the studio to record a new album with producer
Lou Merrenstein who had previously worked with people like Van Morrison.
Although a number of test pressings were made, for contractual reasons the
album was later withdrawn. This is the first time the album has ever been
released in the UK in its entirety.
The album is enhanced by the addition of 10 bonus tracks taken from TV and radio sessions of the same era. Featured musicians include Spencer Davis, Ray Fenwick, Eddie Hardin, Pete York, Dee Murray, Nigel Olsson, Dave Hynes, Kirk Duncan, and Dave Mason and Chris Wood who augment the "live" tracks.

This release was recorded
in 1982 and is Eddie Hardin's second solo album. Eddie, of course, was keyboard
player with Spencer Davis Group and Hardin & York and got
involved with then ex-Deep Purple bass player Roger Glover.
Glover's project "Butterfly Ball" spawned a worldwide hit "Love Is All" which
is presented here in rare demo format.
A very personal set of songs, also featuring some standards, "Circumstantial Evidence" features Ray , guitar and bass, Roger Glover, bass and drums, Rob Townsend (ex-Family), drums, Bimbo Acock, sax, Pete York, drums, and Ronnie Dio, vocals. As Eddie Hardin says in the liner notes: "Special thanks to Raymondo Le Guitar."

of a live classic rock performance. The Ian Gillan Band features Ray Fenwick

Fancy were something
of a seventies phenomenon. The band were a bunch of session musicians, who
seizing the main chance had a surprise US hit single in 1974 with a version
of the classic "Wild Thing". Originally fronted by Penthouse Pet Helen
Caunt (who according to producer Mike Hurst breathed
rather than sang the words) the band featured seasoned sessioners Ray
Fenwick and Mo Foster.
Included on this Angel Air release are the two complete Fancy albums, together with three bonus tracks "Fancy", "Bluebird" and "Music Maker". The sleeve notes are written by producer Mike Hurst and include rare photos from Ray Fenwick's and Mo Foster's archive.

formed during 1987 by RAY FENWICK and POLLE EDUARD who had
worked together with hit Dutch groups TEE SET and AFTER TEA.
An illustrious line-up of musicians joins Ray and Polle on the album: JAN AKKERMAN, COZY POWELL, CANDY DULFER, LISA BORAY to name just a few! The resulting music is a tasty cocktail of rhythm and blues, blue-eyed soul and blues. The music is contemporary and showcases the instrumental prowess of the ensemble, with not a sequencer in sight! The history of Summer
Wine starts in the early-60s with Tony Rivers and the
Castaways then through the second half of that decade with Harmony
Grass. In 1970 Tony Rivers and Castaway member John Perry were
working regularly providing harmonies on numerous artist recording
sessions.
During the course of this work, they met up with Ray Fenwick (fresh from Tee Set and Spencer Davis Group) and producer extraordinaire Mike Hurst and recorded a version of 'Why Do Fools Fall In Love?' which was released under the name Summer Wine. The single made the USA Top 100. Between summer 1971 and summer 1972 the band continued to record even though it was never their intention to perform the songs live. Two other singles were released but, as usual in those days, no hit meant no album. The tracks are released for the first time on CD. It is an opportunity to enjoy some of the best UK harmony from the early-70s featuring some of the best musicians. Released by Angel Air Records Cat.No.SJPCD126 |
